Subaru's Christmas present to everyone is the release of the first official photo of the 2009 Forester. The Forester's appearance has been one of the worst-kept secrets all the time of autodom over the last few weeks.
Subaru's press release (read it after the jump) is scant on details except to say that the car rides on a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model, providing more interior room while growing overall length just 3 inches. Inside, expect to see upgraded plastics and ergonomics, with power coming from 2.5L normally aspirated and turbocharged boxer engines. Lots more information on this new Forester in the coming days. -Press release after the jump...
Tata Motors is expected become the winning bidder for Jaguar and Land Rover in the coming weeks. While the Indian automaker could soon be selling expensive British luxury cars and SUVs, it's also hard at work developing the world's most cheap car.
The cheap car under development is expected to sell for around 100,000 rupees or around $2,500 USD, and it has just announced that it will be unveiled early next month at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. The car is expected have an engine in the rear powering the rear wheels, four doors.

Although Ford says no announcement will be made about what company will end up with Jaguar and Land Rover until 2008, Automotive News says that three bidders remain in the running.
India's Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra and U.S. private equity firm One Equity Partners are all still interested, but Tata looks to be the most likely candidate to own Jaguar and Land Rover.
The Birmingham Post had expected an announcement saying Tata Motors will pay as much as $2 billion for Jag and Land Rover. But a Ford spokesman tells Business Week that the company won't say anything about a possible deal until after the new year.

English Birmingham Post newspaper reported that Tata Motors will be named the winning bid for Jaguar and Land Rover. Neither the seller, Ford, nor the buyer, Tata, have confirmed that an announcement has made, and in fact Ford has repeatedly said that a buyer will not be named until early next year.
The British paper reiterates the same estimate we've heard before, that Tata will be doling out around £1 billion, or $2 billion USD, for the right to own these two storied brands.

Although it's been rumored, spied and denied before, Ford has finally made it official: the Focus RS will be on sale in 2009.
The car will be based off the current Focus ST and come equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five producing around 280 HP and 295 lb.-ft. of torque.
The suspension and chassis will be tuned to compete with the new Evo X and Subaru Impreza STI, and will include plenty of rally-inspired kit, blistered wheel arches, hood vents, spoilers and a driver-centric interior fitted with deeply bolstered seats.
There are still some questions about the transmission etc. Expect answers when the Focus RS makes its debut sometime during the 2008 auto show season, right before the RS goes on sale in Europe in the spring of '09.

The Land Rover LRX will be unveiled at Detroit next month. The coupe concept based on the Freelander, it's shorter and lower.
The compact SUV has long doors and an athletic stance, 20" wheels, and a threatened front fascia. The cabin takes on a 2+2 configuration, decorated in typical concept trim. The shifter is mounted at the top part of the center console, with a fancy metal central controller for the four-wheel-drive positioned further down.
The attached photos show red ambient lighting in the cabin. That indicates that the car is in sport driving mode. The same lighting glows green during off-road use and blue in normal mod
Technical and powertrain details aren't spelled out clearly yet.

Seat has been testing an early mule for their upcoming flagship sedan under the cover of darkness. The spy photographers has caught this test mule in the Swiss Alps only days after catching Seat's brand new Ibiza.toledo
The new Seat sedan is based on the outgoing Audi A4 that is still a very modern and safe. The test mule carries Seat's new front design, but still has a similar body style to the A4. But the wider and lower radiator will be accompanied by more Seat particular styling cues when the project progresses.
From Seat's statement in May 2007: “SEAT will have two versions: a saloon and an estate car....whose market launch is planned for 2009”.

NBC has officially announced the return of Knight Rider to network TV. The new show will debut as a two-hour movie on February 17th with a cast that includes Justin Bruening, Deanna Russo, Sydney Tamiia Poitier and Bruce Davison. The return of David Hasselhoff in the role of an elder Michael Knight is also confirmed.
Finally, the character all the auto freaks care about most, KITT, has been officially confirmed as a Ford GT500KR. The voice of KITT will also be none other than Will Arnett, husband of Saturday Night Live's Amy Poehler and ex-alum of the TV show Arrested Development. -Continued after the jump...
There will actually be three versions of KITT in the show: a 540-hp standard version of the character named KITT Hero, a super high-speed version that's heavily modified for combat called KITT Attack, and a driverless version called KITT Remote.

Land Rover will show a "close to production" coupe SUV next month at Detroit Auto Show. The car had been shown on the concept sketch Land Rover released around the time of the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.
This picture sent by a reader to Carscoop.com. The reader claims this is an official image of the Land Rover LXR Concept, a two-door concept SUV that precedes a production model to be slotted in below the Freelander and available for sale sometime in 2011.
Land Rover is currently enjoying its best sales year in history, so expanding the lineup with an even more attainable model seems like a great idea.

The current Mercedes-Benz SL is in the market in many years and spy shots of a freshened model have been found their ways to internet several months ago.
The facelifted Mercedes SL has been snapped during a shoot on location in Dubai. That means it's only a matter of time before its official debut. Most of the car looks pretty much unchanged, with the most of the action taking place at the nose. -Continued after the jump...
The grille has a sharper vertical crease similar to the new C-Class. The vents ahead of the front wheels and the wheels themselves indicate this is probably the latest AMG variant. Expect few changes at the rear bar new LED lamps, a revised bumper design and a minor exhaust pipe update.
Engines are likely to remain the same as the present SL, although rumours suggest a 354 hp replacement engine for the SL350. The SL will surface at Geneva and hit the market at the end of 2008.

The new Ford Ka for South America is set to be unveiled next week in Sao Paulo, Brazil. But the new model already caught by the photographers.
As you can see from the pic above, the new Ford Ka, at least for the Brazilian market, carries simlar design cues to current version and getting a little more mainstream.
We may yet see a different design for the rest of Europe. It may be a Fiat 500 sibling, as Ford and the Italian automaker are reportedly sharing platforms for both vehicles.
